Teachings of the Buddha

Buddhism is simple and factual. It is a universal teaching that can be understood by all people. That is why the Teachings of the Buddha is referred to as a philosophy of Life.

However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them? - The Buddha

He who looks for me, that is, through any material form, or seeks me through any audible sound, that man has entered on an erroneous course, and shall never behold the Buddha. - The Buddha

Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others. - The Buddha

Happily do we live, benevolent amongst the hateful, amidst hateful men, we live benevolent. - The Buddha

If a viper lives in your room and you wish to have a peaceful sleep, you must first chase it out. - The Buddha

A heart untouched by worldly things, not swayed by sorrow, passionless and secure – that is the greatest blessing. - Buddha

Blessed are they who earn their livelihood in a way that brings hurt or danger to no living thing. - The Buddha

You cannot travel the path until you have become the path itself. - Buddha

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. - The Buddha

God

God is not real. God is an invention – a word dreamed up to explain the world.

God – for people who are not strong enough to cope with reality.

Religion

Religion doesn’t just cloud our minds. It asks us to deliberately deceive ourselves to replace reason with its opposite: Faith. And when men operate on faith, they can no longer be reasoned with, which makes them more dangerous than any sane man, good or evil. - Unknown

A long and wicked life followed by five minutes of perfect grace gets you into Heaven. An equally long life of decent living and good works followed by one outburst of taking the name of the Lord in vain – then have a heart attack at that moment and be damned for eternity. Is that the system? - Robert Heinlein

Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people; Before you tell me how much you love your God, show me how much you love all his children; Before you preach to me of your passion for your faith, teach me about it through your compassion for your neighbours. - Cory Booker

The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance... logic can be happily tossed out the window. - Stephen King

The Goal of Spiritual life

The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature. - Joseph Campbell
Image from the internet

It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up. - Eckhart Tolle

All that affliction of the darkest kind ever can work to the true soul is to awaken it up to spiritual things, to open the clear eye, to make the spiritual reality the more real. If you rightly comprehend it, it only strikes that which is round about you, it only removes that which is outward and physical, but it leaves you all the same a greater and a better man for your trial. - E.H. Chapin

Being is that which disturbs our insistence on remaining in the life-numbing realm of our secret desperation. It is the itch that cannot be scratched, the whisper that will not be denied. To be, to truly be, is not a given. Most of us live in a state where our being has long ago been exiled to the shadow realm of our silent anguish. At times Being will break through the fabric of our unconsciousness to remind us that we are not living the life we could be living, the life that truly matters. - Adyashanti

In an evolutionary context, the goal of the spiritual life is not peace; it’s perpetual development. Evolutionary enlightenment is about the ecstasy that compels us to create the future. And it’s not a future that’s going to unfold by itself while we go back to sleep. It’s a future that we forge the hard way through direct, conscious, intentional engagement with the life-process itself. - Andrew Cohen

The Pursuit Of Tao

Taoism emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, (The Way of Nature) which means aligning oneself with the natural order of the universe and the flow of energy (Chi or Qi).

The Tao is often described as something that is difficult to grasp or define, as it is beyond the limitations of human language and thought.

Image from the internet

When the highest type of men hear Tao,
They diligently practice it.
When the average type of men hear Tao,
They half believe in it.
When the lowest type of men hear Tao,
They laugh heartily at it.
- Lao-Tzu

The supreme good is like water,
Which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.
Thus it is like the Tao.
In dwelling, live close to the ground.
In thinking, keep to the simple.
In conflict, be fair and generous.
In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present.
- Lao-Tzu

The Universe

In this interconnected universe, every improvement we make in our private world improves the world at large for everyone. We all float on the collective level of consciousness of mankind, so that any increment we add comes back to us. We all add to our common buoyancy by our efforts to benefit life. It is a scientific fact that what is good for you is good for me. - Dr. David Hawkins

The universe must not be narrowed down to the limit of our understanding, but our understanding must be stretched and enlarged to take in the image of the universe as it is discovered. - Francis Bacon

When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty. - John Muir

I like to experience the Universe as one harmonious whole. Every cell has life. Matter, too, has life; it is energy solidified… - Albert Einstein

The universe has no restrictions. You place restrictions on the universe with your expectations. - Deepak Chopra

The universe is completely balanced and in perfect order. You will always be compensated in full for everything you do. - Brian Tracy

There is a universe out there, a universe of life, objects, and events. There are differences, but it is all the same universe, and we all must obey the same universal laws. - Barry B. Longyear

Meditation

Image from the internet

NEUROSCIENTISTS SCANNED THE BRAINS OF MEDITATORS AND WHAT THEY FOUND CHANGED EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT THE MIND

For most of human history, meditation was considered a spiritual practice — valuable for inner peace and religious development but outside the domain of medicine and neuroscience. That changed dramatically in 2011 when a landmark Harvard study published in Psychiatry Research provided the first structural MRI evidence that meditation physically and measurably changes the architecture of the human brain.

Dr. Sara Lazar and her team found that participants in an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program showed significant increases in gray matter density in the hippocampus (learning and memory), the posterior cingulate cortex (mind-wandering and self-relevance), the temporo-parietal junction (empathy and compassion), and the cerebellum. Simultaneously, gray matter in the amygdala — the brain's threat-detection alarm system — measurably decreased, correlating directly with participants' reported reductions in stress.

This was not subjective. These were structural changes in brain tissue — visible on MRI scans after just 8 weeks of daily practice.

Additional research has demonstrated that consistent meditation practice lowers cortisol by up to 30%, increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor — the brain's growth hormone), elevates baseline serotonin and dopamine levels, reduces systemic inflammatory markers including IL-6 and CRP, and improves telomere length — a direct biological marker of cellular aging.

The most accessible form: 10 minutes of breath-focused awareness every morning before engaging with any screen or stimulus. No app required. No special training required.

Just sit. Breathe. Watch your brain transform.

This is for educational purposes only, not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your health routine.

Truth

The truth is open for all who can understand. You must be lamps unto your selves. You must depend upon no eternal refuge, depend on no leader, and depend on no teacher. Look within. You are the Buddha. - The Buddha

All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. - Galileo Galilei

People often claim to hunger for truth, but seldom like the taste when it's served up. - George R.R. Martin

Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Spurn not at seeming error, but dig below its surface for the truth; and beware of seeming truths that grow on the roots of error. - Martin Farquhar Tupper

The most effectual method of expelling error, is, not to meet it sword in hand, but gradually to instil great truths, with which it cannot easily coexist. - William E. Channing

The truth you believe and cling to, makes you unavailable to hear anything new. - Pema Chodron

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting. - The Buddha
