Science

Science is a systematic approach to understanding the natural world through observation, experimentation, and the development of testable explanations. It's a way of acquiring knowledge about how the world works, from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies.

This is interesting.

What if consciousness isn’t something your brain creates, but a fundamental force of the universe — like gravity?

For decades, mainstream science has operated under the assumption of physicalism — treating the human brain like a computer and consciousness as mere software generated by firing neurons.

However, prominent neuroscientists like Dr. Christof Koch of the Allen Institute and Dr. Nicco Reggente of the Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies are challenging this materialistic view.

They propose that consciousness is not a byproduct of biological hardware, but rather a fundamental building block of the universe, akin to gravity, mass, or spacetime. By comparing the brain to a radio receiver that interacts with an external signal rather than generating the broadcast itself, these researchers argue that our subjective experience is a gateway to a deeper, universal reality.

If this theory holds true, it completely reframes both cosmological puzzles and the human experience. Major scientific roadblocks — such as "the hard problem" of how physical matter creates subjective feelings — instantly dissolve if consciousness is accepted as foundational.

Instead of asking how matter produces the mind, researchers can ask how the mind structures itself into the appearance of matter. This paradigm shift could also revolutionize medical science, offering a new framework for understanding phenomena like near-death experiences.

If consciousness exists independently of our biological bodies, our final moments may not represent an ending, but rather a return to the fundamental fabric of the cosmos.

This was from a Facebook page. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a note of the page name.

A Third State of Being

Buddhism teaches that Life never dies. What did the Buddha know that we are only finding out now.
Image from the internet

Scientists have identified what they’re calling a “third state” between life and death, a strange biological territory where cells from a deceased organism don’t simply shut down. Instead, under the right conditions, they reorganize, adapt, and sometimes create entirely new forms of living systems.

When we think about death, we often imagine a clean ending. An organism exists, then it stops existing. But biology appears to be more complex than that. The individual organism may die, while some of its components still carry a kind of creative potential, capable of participating in new patterns of organization.

In one experiment, researchers took skin cells from a deceased frog embryo and placed them in a controlled environment. Rather than simply breaking down, the cells spontaneously assembled into tiny living structures called xenobots. These new entities could move, repair themselves, interact with their environment, and even reproduce in a way unlike traditional organisms, by gathering and organizing other cells into new forms.

Later, scientists discovered similar behavior in human lung cells. These cells formed what researchers called anthrobots, small living structures that could navigate their surroundings and even assist in repairing damaged nerve cells.

From these studies, perhaps life is less like a machine that either turns on or off, and more like a dynamic process of organization, relationship, and intelligence expressing itself through matter.

We can let this be a reminder that nature does not always operate according to the rigid categories we create and perceive in the world.

This discovery also becomes philosophically fascinating. If cells from something that has died can reorganize into something new, what does that say about our understanding of endings? What if death is not simply the opposite of life, but a transition point where existing patterns dissolve and new patterns become possible? - A Facebook post by 'Collective Evolution'

Science

Science – the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained.
Image from the internet

The idea that your mind is woven into the universe is no longer just spiritual talk. It is creeping into serious science. A growing number of researchers are returning to panpsychism, the idea that consciousness is not made by the brain alone but is a fundamental feature of reality itself, present in all matter. Once dismissed as mysticism, it is now drawing real scientific attention.

What revived it is quantum biology. Nature already uses quantum effects in photosynthesis and bird navigation, so why not in the brain? That is the core of a theory from physicist Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff, who proposed consciousness arises from quantum processes inside our neurons. Some physicists go further, arguing the quantum information behind consciousness is non-local, reaching back to the origin of the universe.

None of it is fully proven. But the wall between mind and cosmos is no longer as solid as science once insisted. And the simplest connection was always real. The atoms thinking these thoughts were forged inside stars. You are made of the universe, briefly arranged into something that can feel it.

So maybe the mystics and the physicists are circling the same truth from opposite ends. What if consciousness was never something the universe produced, but something it was made of all along? - A Facebook post by ‘Astrophilesz’

There must be no barriers for freedom of inquiry. There is no place for dogma in science. The scientist is free, and must be free to ask any question, to doubt any assertion, to seek for any evidence, to correct any errors. - J. Robert Oppenheimer

The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence. If you want to find the secrets of the iniverse, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. - Nikola Tesla

Science may be weird and incomprehensible – more weird and less comprehensible than any theology – but science works. It gets results. It can fly you to Saturn, slingshotting you around Venus and Jupiter on the way. We may not understand quantum theory (heaven knows, I don't), but a theory that predicts the real world to ten decimal places cannot in any straightforward sense be wrong. - Richard Dawkins

It is not what the man of science believes that distinguishes him, but how and why he believes it. His beliefs are tentative, not dogmatic; they are based on evidence, not on authority or intuition. - Bertrand Russell

In essence, science is a perpetual search for an intelligent and integrated comprehension of the world we live in. - Cornelius Bernardus Van Neil

Science is simply common sense at its best – that is, rigidly accurate in observation, and merciless to fallacy in logic. - Thomas Huxley

Just because science doesn't know everything doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairy tale most appeals to you. - Dara O'Brien

Science

By reminding us of our deep cosmic ignorance, science – far from dulling the mystery of existence – sharpens it the way garlic wafting on the evening breeze whets your appetite. It reminds us that we dwell in a mystery that is ultimately more to be savoured than solved. - Unknown

There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, and science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works. - Stephen Hawking

Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. - Carl Sagan

A few drops of science will often disinfect an entire barrel full of ignorance and prejudice. - Hendrik Willem van Loon

When different experiments give you the same results, it is no longer subject to your opinion. That’s the good thing about science. It’s true, whether or not you believing it. That’s why it works. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

What do you think science is? There's nothing magical about science. it is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. Which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic? - Dr. Steven Novella

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes – an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless sceptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. - Carl Sagan

Science is an attempt, largely successful, to understand the world, to get a grip on things, to get a hold of ourselves, to steer a safe course. Microbiology and meteorology now explain what only a few centuries ago was considered sufficient cause to burn women to death. - Carl Sagan

There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority and science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works. - Stephen Hawking

What refutes science:
- Better science.

What doesn’t refute science:
- Your feelings
- Your religions
- Your favourite politicians
- Your half-baked opinion after watching two YouTube videos

Science doesn’t set out to refute religion; science sets out to discover what is true. Religion is collateral damage. - Unknown

Science and Spirituality

"Uniting science and spirituality has a very practical purpose. Science without spirituality can easily lose the ethical, moral and values-based perspective.

Scientists without the guidance of spirituality can engage in the invention of nuclear bombs and other weapons of war, genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, factory farming where animals are reared in cruel conditions, and technologies that create waste, pollution and the destruction of Nature.

Science without the guidance of spiritual values has created many of the problems the world faces today. Science by itself is not benign, value-free or neutral.

Therefore, science needs the helping hand of spiritual wisdom in order to maintain its integrity and modify its power. Without spiritual wisdom, science can be dangerous. Spirituality gives meaning, value and purpose to science.

As science needs spirituality, spirituality needs science. Without science, spirituality can easily and quickly turn into blind faith, dogmatism, sectarianism, and fundamentalism.

Unscientifically minded people may claim, “My god is the only true god and I have the truth. Everybody must be converted to my truth.” Such narrow religious exclusivity has led to wars, conflicts, terrorism and divisions.

Science helps to keep our minds open so we can seek truth and act for the benefit of the whole of humanity and for the good of all living beings, human, and other-than-human.

Do we want to live in a fragmented way, either as materialists discarding the subjective dimension of spiritual wisdom or as spiritual seekers denigrating the objective world of scientific discovery?

The choice is ours. I choose to embrace spirituality with a scientific mind. For me, science and spirituality are complementary parts of the whole."
