Spiritual Love

When you plant a seed of love, it is you that blossoms. - Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

Learning how to love is the goal and the purpose of spiritual life – not learning how to develop psychic powers, not learning how to bow, chant, do yoga, or even meditate, but learning to love. Love is the truth. Love is the light. - Lama Surya Das

Love is absolutely vital for a human life. For love alone can awaken what is divine within you. In love, you grow and come home to your self. When you learn to love and let yourself be love, you come home to the hearth of your own spirit. You are warm and sheltered. - John O’Donohue

Love is how it feels to recognize our essential unity. Awakening to oneness is the experience of Big Love. Knowing you are one with all, you find yourself in love with all. - Timothy Freke

Love is the secret you unmask yourself to find; it is the foundation of the spiritual life, the destination where all roads of the journey lead. - Elizabeth Lesser

Thus when I have to summarize naturalized spirituality in a single phrase, it is this: the thoughtful love of life. - Robert C. Solomon

First, we love within, then we love the world. - Elizabeth Lesser

Zen Sayings

Zen is the Japanese pronunciation of a Chinese word, ch’an which comes from a Sanskrit root meaning ‘thought’, ‘absorption’, or ‘meditaiton’. And meditation is at the heart of Zen, along with an emphasis on self-control and insight.

Zen uses art, koans, and storytelling to provide direct insight, bypassing philosophical constructs and the limitations of language.

The following Zen sayings sound a bit cryptic. Some might also sound nonsensical. Not all will understand them. If you understand them, you would have an understanding of what is Zen.

To understand nothing takes time. - Zen Proverb

If you understand, things are just as they are… If you do not understand things are just as they are. - Zen Saying

Knock on the sky and listen to the sound! - Zen Saying

Let go over a cliff, die completely, and then come back to life – after that you cannot be deceived. - Zen Saying

Before enlightenment chop wood carry water. After enlightenment chop wood carry water. – Zen Saying

Breathe deep and let go. - Zen Saying

The obstacle is the path. - Zen Saying

There is nothingness, where comes the dust? - Zen proverb

This is it. But if you fixate on it, It isn’t any more. - Zen Proverb

The Pursuit Of Tao

Tao, (in Chinese philosophy) is the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behaviour, that is in harmony with the natural order. The principle of Yin and Yang dictates that there are always two sides to a story and two different ways of seeing a situation. The wise see both and can differentiate what is right.
Image from the internet

In the pursuit of learning, every day something is acquired. In the pursuit of Tao, every day something is dropped. Less and less is done until non-action is achieved. When nothing is done, nothing is left undone. The world is ruled by letting things take their course. It cannot be ruled by interfering. - Lao Tsu

{There are two paths leading to oneness with the Tao.} The first in the path of acceptance. Affirm everyone and everything. Freely extend your goodwill and virtue in every direction, regardless of circumstances. Embrace all things as part of the Harmonious Oneness, and then you will begin to perceive it. The second path is that of denial. Recognize that everything you see and think is a falsehood, an illusion, a veil over the truth. Peel all the veils away, and you will arrive at the Oneness. Though these paths are entirely different, they will deliver you to the same place: spontaneous awareness of the Great Oneness. - Lao Tzu

Empty the heart, fill the abdomen. - Lao Tzu, the Patriarch of Taoism
Explanation: Relax, and empty your mind and heart of all thoughts. Breathe in gently and deeply, so that the incoming cosmic energy fills the energy centre at your abdomen.

The Universe

If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning. - C.S. Lewis
Image from the internet

In the universe there is an immeasurable, indescribable force which shamans call intent, and absolutely everything that exists in the entire cosmos is attached to intent by a connecting link. - Carlos Castaneda

The universe is energy that responds to expectations. - James Redfield

There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle. - Deepak Chopra

When one tugs at a single thing in Nature, he finds it hitched to the rest of the Universe. - John Muir

The universe is so well balanced that the mere fact that you have a problem also serves as a sign that there is a solution. - Steve Maraboli

There is no reason that the universe should be designed for our convenience. - John D. Barrow

A universe that came from nothing in the big bang will disappear into nothing at the big crunch. Its glorious few zillion years of existence not even a memory. - Paul Davies

Meditation

Meditation may significantly reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and pain, and enhance peace, self-concept, and well-being. Research is ongoing to better understand the effects of meditaion on health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other areas.
Image from the internet

A new study highlights the powerful effects of meditation on the brain. Researchers found that meditating for 27 minutes each day over 8 weeks can physically increase brain size while reducing the size of the stress center, the amygdala.

Meditation encourages mindfulness, focus, and calm awareness. During practice, neural pathways associated with attention, emotional regulation, and self-control strengthen. MRI scans from participants revealed that areas linked to learning, memory, and empathy actually grew in volume. At the same time, the amygdala, which controls fear and stress responses, shrank, showing that meditation helps reduce chronic stress and anxiety.

The benefits extend beyond the brain’s structure. Participants reported feeling calmer, more focused, and emotionally balanced. By regularly practicing meditation, the body’s stress hormones, including cortisol, decrease, promoting better sleep, improved mood, and overall health.

This study shows that small daily habits can create significant changes in the brain. Meditation is a simple, cost-free way to strengthen mental resilience, enhance cognitive function, and manage stress naturally. Just 27 minutes a day could reshape your mind and improve overall well-being.

Truth

Most people don’t really want the truth. They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth. - Unknown

Self is a fever; self is a transient vision, a dream, but truth is wholesome, truth is sublime, truth is everlasting. There is no immortality except in truth. For truth alone abideth forever. - Unknown

Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t goin’ away. - Elvis Presley

Our minds possess by nature an insatiable desire to know the truth. - Marcus Tullius Cicero

Man is here to search for truth, and to search until he finds it. And he will enjoy it all the more that he has had to search for it. - Reuen Thomas

People will generally accept facts as truth only if the facts agree with what they already believe. - Andy Rooney

Proof is boring. Proof is tiresome. Proof is an irrelevance. People would far rather be handed an easy lie than search for a difficult truth, especially if it suits their own purposes. - Joe Abercrombie

Calm and Steady Mind

At certain times, a silent mind is very important, but ‘silent’ does not mean closed. The silent mind is an alert, awakened mind; a mind seeking the nature of reality. - Lama Yeshe

Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened, but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock in a thunderstorm. - Robert Luis Stevenson

One’s mind has a way of making itself up in the background, and it suddenly becomes clear what one means to do. - Arthur C. Benson

Your own mind is a sacred enclosure into which nothing harmful can enter except by your permission. - Arnold Bennett

Teachings of the Buddha

No matter how far out on the sea of suffering we’ve sailed, all that is required is to turn toward awakening. It’s never too late, but it takes that turning, and no one can do that for us. - Bommie Myotai Treace
Image from the internet

Rituals have no efficacy; prayers are vain repetitions; and incantations have no saving power. But to abandon covetousness and hurt, to become free from evil passions and to give up hatred and ill-will, that is the right sacrifice and the true worship.

Seeing that we are better than others is not right. Seeing that we are equal to others is not right. Seeing that we are inferior to others is not right. If we think we are better than others, pride arises. If we think we are equal to others, we fail to show respect and humility at the proper times. If we think we are inferior to others, we get depressed thinking we are inferior, born under a bad sign and so on. Just let all of that go.

The Tempter masters the lazy and irresolute man who dwells on the attractive side of things, ungoverned in his senses, and unrestrained in his food, like the wind overcomes a rotten tree. But the Tempter cannot master a man who dwells on the distasteful side of things, self-controlled in his senses, moderate in eating, resolute and full of faith, like the wind cannot move a mountain crag. - The Buddha

Think and Exist

Nowadays, people are more educated. They are beginning to doubt and question what they were told, what they learned. People are 'waking' up. They are now able to differentiate between the truth and lies. That is inevitable. This is a good sign.

The following are 'Food For Thought'. I pinched them from a Facebook Page called ‘Think and Exist’

Religion

You don’t need religion to have morals. If you can’t determine right from wrong then you lack empathy, not religion. - Unknown
Image from the internet

Over the years my religion has changed and my spirituality has evolved. Religion and spirituality are very different, but people often confuse the two. Some things cannot be taught, but they can be awakened in the heart. Spirituality is recognizing the divine light that is within us all. It doesn't belong to any particular religion; it belongs to everyone. - Muhammad Ali

We keep on being told that religion, whatever its imperfections, at least instils morality. On every side, there is conclusive evidence that the contrary is the case and that faith causes people to be more mean, more selfish, and perhaps above all, more stupid. - Christopher Hitchens

One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all. - Arthur Clarke

When it comes to religion, we're not two sides of the same coin, and you don't get to put your unreason up on the same shelf with my reason. Your stuff has to go over there, on the shelf with Zeus and Thor and the Kraken, with the stuff that is not evidence-based, stuff that religious people never change their mind about, no matter what happens. - Bill Maher

God

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear. - Thomas Jeffeson
Image from the internet

It is not necessary to believe in God to be a good person. In a way, the traditional notion of God is outdated. One can be spiritual but not religious. It is not necessary to go to church and give money – for many, nature can be a church. Some of the best people in history did not believe in God, while some of the worst deeds were done in His name. - Pope Francis

There are many aspects of the universe that still cannot be explained satisfactorily by science; but ignorance only implies ignorance that may someday be conquered. To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today. - Isaac Asimov

Theologians and philosophers, who make God the creator of Nature and the architect of the Universe, reveal Him to us as an illogical and unbalanced Being. They declare He is benevolent because they are afraid of Him, but they are forced to admit the truth that His ways are vicious and beyond understanding. They attribute a malignity to Him seldom to be found in any human being. And that is how they get human beings to worship Him. For our miserable species would never lavish worship on a just and benevolent God from whom they had nothing to fear. - Anatole France
