Teachings of The Buddha

Beware of misdeeds of the mind, and control thy mind; Renounce the sins of the mind, and practise virtue with thy mind. Beware of misdeeds of the tongue, and control thy tongue; Renounce the sins of the tongue and practise virtue with thy tongue. Beware of bodily misdeeds, and control thy body, renounce the sins of the body, and with thy body practise virtue. - The Buddha

Merit is not burnt by fire, by wind too it cannot be broken asunder, and not by water be rotten, and it is able to sustain the world. Merit can bravely withstand, both the king and the thief, and cannot be taken away by humans and non-humans. - The Buddha

Rituals have no efficacy; prayers are vain repetitions; and incantations have no saving power. But to abandon covetousness and hurt, to become free from evil passions and to give up hatred and ill-will, that is the right sacrifice and the true worship. - The Buddha

The Tempter masters the lazy and irresolute man who dwells on the attractive side of things, ungoverned in his senses, and unrestrained in his food, like the wind overcomes a rotten tree. But the Tempter cannot master a man who dwells on the distasteful side of things, self-controlled in his senses, moderate in eating, resolute and full of faith, like the wind cannot move a mountain crag. - The Buddha
