Buddhist Wisdom

Praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind. To be happy, rest like a giant tree in the midst of them all.

Patience is the strong armour. Wisdom is the sharp weapon.

Self is an error, an illusion, a dream; open your eyes and awake. He who has found there is no 'I' will let go of all the lusts and dreams of egotism.

The one of few desires is the happiest. The one who knows contentment is very rich and honoured.

The one who carries things thinks he's got things, but the one who looks on only sees the heaviness. Throw away things, lose them, and find lightness.

The original human nature is pure. It is our worldly cultures and conditionings that fogged our mind and divided people.

The wise man never changes in face of happiness or sorrow, even as a mountain shakes not, being blown against by fierce gusts of wind.

There is no fire like passion, there is no shark like hatred, there is no snare like folly, there is no torrent like greed.

There is only one reality in life - change. Everything changes, nothing remains without change.

Though one should conquer a million men in battlefield, yet indeed he is the noblest victor who has conquered himself.

To utter pleasant words without practicing them, is like a fine flower without fragrance.

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.

When emotional thoughts such as pride, hatred, jealousy arise, there is no place for us to practice patience.

When one masters his wretched desire, which is so hard to overcome, then one’s sorrows just drop off, like a drop of water off a lotus.

Yield not to idleness, neither give way to lust nor cravings. He who is full of earnest, diligent in devotion to others attains great happiness.
