Zen Practice

Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing meditation as the path to direct experience of one's true nature and inner peace. Originating in China as ‘Chan Buddhism’, it spread to Japan and focuses on the practice of zazen (seated meditation) and cultivating a calm, present-moment awareness to understand the illusory nature of the ego and suffering.

One has to reach to the absolute state of awareness: that is Zen. You cannot do it every morning for a few minutes or for half an hour and then forget all about it. It has to become like your heartbeat. You have to sit in it, you have to walk in it. Yes, you have even to sleep in it. - Osho

You mustn’t worry about how your practice is, whether you are making progress or not, whether you are in anguish or not. All these things are not important. They are like clouds passing in front of the moon. You must not be attached to anything that appears in your mind. - Zen master Seung Sahn

Zen is practice, experience, life – not explaining, interpreting, investigating, quibbling. All talk, as the Chinese masters of old say, is at best a finger pointing to the moon. The finger is not the moon and cannot pull the moon down. - Heinrich Dumoulin

Joy comes from appreciation. Appreciation comes from paying attention. Paying attention is the practice of Zen. - Zen Saying

In Zen, we don’t find the answers, we lost the questions. - Zen saying
