The unenlightened human state is one of "faithlessness" in which an individual lives in slavery to the false self and the desires of the materials world. Spiritual practices aimed at transforming the compulsiveness of the false self and "Submission" to a higher order of reality. Without this submission, the real self is enslaved to the ego and lives in a state of internal conflict due to the contradictory impulses of the ego. The enslaved ego cannot perceive reality, and cannot receive the spiritual guidance and nourishment. Overcoming this enslavement and false separation leads to the realization and development of our true humanity. Spiritual maturity is the realization that the self is a reflection of the Divine.
The soul attracts that which it secretly harbors; that which it loves, and also that which it fears; it reaches the height of its cherished aspirations; it falls to the level of its unchastened desires. Every thought-seed sown or allowed to fall into the mind, and to take root there, produces its own, blossoming sooner or later into act, and bearing its own furtive of opportunity and circumstance. Good thoughts bear good fruit; bad thought, bad fruit. - James Allen
