While the Tao is a central concept in Taoism, it’s not a deity or god in the traditional sense. Taoists often see it as the source of all things, but not a being that is worshipped or prayed to.
In essence, the Tao represents the inherent order, energy, and way of the universe, and living in accordance with it is a key principle in Taoism.
