Spirituality Journey

The spirtual journey is a very personal thing. There will sometimes be long periods when you feel you are not getting anywhere. And there will be times when you have a moment of ‘enlightenment’. Like doing a zigsaw puzzle, you found a piece of the puzzle that fits. When that happens, you will feel blissful.

When the Light of Purpose illuminates our lives, we will see clearly the Path on which we are to walk. - George Petavine

Each one of us has our own evolution of life, and each one of us goes through different tests which are unique and challenging. But certain things are common. And we do learn things from each other’s experience. On a spiritual journey, we all have the same destination. - A. R. Rahman

We are travellers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity. - Paulo Coelho

The spiritual journey does not consist in arriving at a new destination where a person gains what he did not have, or becomes what he is not. It consists in the dissipation of one’s own ignorance concerning one’s self and life, and the gradual growth of that understanding which begins the spiritual awakening. - Aldous Huxley

Spiritual Training

Learn to trust the journey even if you do not understand it. Sometimes what you never wanted or expected turns out to be what you need. Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s okay. You’re here to live your life, not to make everyone understand. Trust the process of life to unfold just the way it needs to for your soul’s perfect path.

In your training, do not be in a hurry, for it takes a minimum of ten years to master the basics and advance to the first rung. Never think of yourself as an all-knowing, perfected master; you must continue to train daily with your friends and students and progress together in the Art of Peace. - Morihei Ueshiba

The essence of spiritual practice is your attitude toward others. When you have a pure, sincere motivation, then you have right attitude toward others based on kindness, compassion, love and respect. - Dali Lama

The foundation of all spiritual practice is love. - The Dalai Lama

It is essential at the beginning of practice to acknowledge that the path is personal and intimate. It is no good to examine it from a distance as if it were someone else’s. You must walk it for yourself. - Robert Aitken

Don’t seek, don’t search, don’t ask, don’t knock, don’t demand – relax. If you relax, it comes. If you relax, it is there. If you relax, you start vibrating with it. - Osho

Spirritual Life

I started out on my spiritual journey in my mid-twenties when common sense and logic told me that the God people believe in couldn’t exist. I believe there is a higher ‘Order’ in the scheme of things. This order is ‘Dependent Origination’. It is this ‘Order’ that things come into being and non-being. This ‘Order’ is responsible for maintaining the equilibrium, keeping the universe together, keeping it going with its own laws.

In our spiritual development we are often required to pull up roots many times and to close chapters in our lives until we are no longer attached to any material things and can love all people without any attachment to them. - Unknown

There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness. - Dalai Lama

A rebirth out of spiritual adversity causes us to become new creatures. - James E. Faust

Great men are they who see that spirituality is stronger than any material force; that thoughts rule the world. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins. - Jim Rohn

Worldly pleasures and bad experiences are so transitory – knowing their transitory nature, their relative nature, their conventional nature, makes you free. - Unknown

Mysticism

Mysticism is the journey Inward. Mystics embark on an inward journey, seeking to explore the depths of their own consciousness and soul. This journey often involves practices such as meditation, contemplation, and prayer.
Image from the internet

There’s a saying which states ‘Religion is for the masses, and mysticism is for the individual’. If you want to be a sheep and follow along with the masses to get a generic, candy-coated version of your spirituality, then follow the teachings of the Christian fathers. If you want to explore your won individual spirituality, you must go deeply inside yourself, instead of through church doors. - Jordan Maxwell

Mystical attainment is an individual accomplishment. Others influence our way of approaching life, but the development of the inner self must be undertaken in solitude. It is by retreating within, facing the real self, and relying on his own resources that the way to mastery of life is achieved. - Unknown

Although each of us obviously inhabits a separate physical body, the laboratory data from a hundred years of parapsychology research strongly indicate that there is no separation in consciousness. - Russell Targ

Zen Practice

Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing meditation as the path to direct experience of one's true nature and inner peace. Originating in China as ‘Chan Buddhism’, it spread to Japan and focuses on the practice of zazen (seated meditation) and cultivating a calm, present-moment awareness to understand the illusory nature of the ego and suffering.
Image from the internet

One has to reach to the absolute state of awareness: that is Zen. You cannot do it every morning for a few minutes or for half an hour and then forget all about it. It has to become like your heartbeat. You have to sit in it, you have to walk in it. Yes, you have even to sleep in it. - Osho

You mustn’t worry about how your practice is, whether you are making progress or not, whether you are in anguish or not. All these things are not important. They are like clouds passing in front of the moon. You must not be attached to anything that appears in your mind. - Zen master Seung Sahn

Zen is practice, experience, life – not explaining, interpreting, investigating, quibbling. All talk, as the Chinese masters of old say, is at best a finger pointing to the moon. The finger is not the moon and cannot pull the moon down. - Heinrich Dumoulin

Joy comes from appreciation. Appreciation comes from paying attention. Paying attention is the practice of Zen. - Zen Saying

In Zen, we don’t find the answers, we lost the questions. - Zen saying

Tao - The Way of Nature

Taoism emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, (The Way of Nature) which means aligning oneself with the natural order of the universe and the flow of energy (Chi or Qi).
Image from the internet

Life exists only at this very moment. You may believe yourself out of harmony with life and its eternal Now; but you cannot be, for you are life and exist Now – otherwise you would not be here. Hence the infinite Tao is something which you can neither escape by flight nor catch by pursuit; there is no coming toward it or going away from it; it is, and you are it. So, become what you are. - Alan Watts

The Tao is supreme goodness. It has no form and is limitless. It is formless because there is no visible trace of its existence. The Tao is that energy that has existed from the beginning when there was neither structure nor differentiation. It is the source of life in heaven and on earth. - Shui-ch'ing Tzu

To study The Way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things. - Dogen

The Tao is near and people seek it far away. - Mencius

In the morning, hear the Way; in the evening, die content! - Confucius

If you overlook the Way right before your eyes, how will you recognize the path beneath your feet? - Shih-T’ou

Chi/Energy

All things have a frequency and a vibration. The wonderful thing to understand here is that the energy that you radiate or send out attracts other situations, events, persons, etc. which are in harmony with your internal energy field. Pay attention to whom your energy increases and decreases around, because that’s the universe giving you a hint of who you should embrace or stay from.
Image from the internet

Energy is the currency of the universe. When you ‘pay’ attention to something, you buy that experience. So when you allow your consciousness to focus on someone or something that annoys you, you feed it your energy, and it reciprocates the experience of being annoyed. Be selective in your focus because your attention feeds the energy of it and keeps it alive. Not just within you, but in the collective consciousness as well. - Emily Marcoutian

At the ultimate level, cultivating energy leads to a wonderful sense of spiritual renewal. Some people have a vibrant living faith, either as part of an orthodox religion or through a private sense of belief. But many people nowadays feel alienated from traditional religions or unable to reconcile their own feelings with the dogma and rituals of age-old sects. However, once you begin to work with energy, the outward trappings of religion become unimportant. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how you perceive God, Goddess, Creator, - when you connect to the living, vibrant energy of the universe, there is no need for names or titles. Instead there is a wonderful sense of belonging, of love, peace and connection. As beings of energy we become united with the source of all energy and therein lies our purpose and our meaning. - Unknown

The Universe

Not only are we in the universe, the universe is in us. I don’t know of any deeper spiritual feeling than what that brings upon me. - Neil deGrasse Tyson

The universe is like our body, The Cosmos in our hand. Nebulous, formless they remain Manifested in forms without end. - Shao Yong

Science

Science is a systematic approach to understanding the natural world through observation, experimentation, and the development of testable explanations. It's a way of acquiring knowledge about how the world works, from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies.
Image from the internet

Science may be weird and incomprehensible – more weird and less comprehensible than any theology – but science works. It gets results. It can fly you to Saturn, slingshotting you around Venus and Jupiter on the way. We may not understand quantum theory (heaven knows, I don't), but a theory that predicts the real world to ten decimal places cannot in any straightforward sense be wrong. - Richard Dawkins

It is not what the man of science believes that distinguishes him, but how and why he believes it. His beliefs are tentative, not dogmatic; they are based on evidence, not on authority or intuition. - Bertrand Russell

In essence, science is a perpetual search for an intelligent and integrated comprehension of the world we live in. - Cornelius Bernardus Van Neil

Science is simply common sense at its best – that is, rigidly accurate in observation, and merciless to fallacy in logic. - Thomas Huxley

Just because science doesn't know everything doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairy tale most appeals to you. - Dara O'Brien

Why Do People Meditate

We meditate to find, to recover, to come back to something of ourselves we once dimly and unknowingly had and have lost without knowing what it was or when we lost it. We may call it access to more of our human potential or being closer to ourselves and to reality, or to more of our capacity for love and zest and enthusiasm, or our knowledge that we are a part of the universe and can never be alienated or separate from it, or our ability to see and function in reality more effectively.
Image from the internet

When you have achieved a state of deep meditation, you unlock the door to your subconscious mind. That is where your power to create the life you desire lies. - Adrian Calabreso

Meditation tends to free a great deal of energy that is usually tied up in various kinds of mental and emotional tensions. When these tensions are released we have more energy available to live full and creative lives. - Unknown

Meditation develops the capacity to question your mind. Without it, you are at the mercy of every thought, every desire, every wave of emotion. - Geneen Roth

Suffering occurs when people are enslaved by their thoughts. Meditation teaches one to let them go like one’s breath. - Venerable Hyon Gak

Meditation brings wisdom. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom. - Buddha

Truth

Image from the internet

No one owns the truth, no person, no prophet, and no holy book. Each of those and, indeed, each person has the ability, the right, and the responsibility to seek and find his or her own truth, and, if found, it may be a truth for that moment, in that situation, and for that person only. - Unknown

Truth resides in every human heart, and one has to search for it there, and to be guided by truth as one sees it. But no one has a right to coerce others to act according to his own view of truth. - Mahatma Gandhi

Truth has power. And if we all gravitate toward similar ideas, maybe we do so because those ideas are true... written deep within us. And when we hear the truth, even if we don't understand it, we feel that truth resonate within us... vibrating with our unconscious wisdom. Perhaps the truth is not learned by us, but rather, the truth is re-called... re-membered... re-cognized... as that which is already inside us. - Dan Brown

Truth is both the way and the goal, the direction to the destination and the destination itself. - Unknown

On the face of it, it must be a bad cause which will not bear discussion. Truth seeks light instead of shunning it. - Horace Mann

The Mind

The mind grows by what it feeds on. It will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it hope. Feed it the truth. Feed it with love. You have power over your mind – not outside events. When you are able to control your mind, you will be free. Realize this, and you will find strength. We have to nurture our mind with positive thoughts. A negative mind will never give you a positive life.
Image from the internet

What shall I compare it to, this fantastic thing I call my Mind? To a waste-paper basket, to a sieve choked with sediment, or to a barrel full of floating froth and refuse? No, what it is really most like is a spider's web, insecurely hung on leaves and twigs, quivering in every wind, and sprinkled with dewdrops and dead flies. And at its centre, pondering forever the Problem of Existence, sits motionless the spider-like and uncanny Soul. - Logan Pearsall Smith

Control of the mind is the key to happiness. It is the kind of virtue and the force behind all true achievement. It is owing to lack of control that various conflicts arise in man’s mind. If he is to control them, he must learn not to give free rein to his longings and inclinations and should try to live a self-governed, pure and calm life. - K. Sri Dhammananda

It’s all in your mind. Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life. If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind. - Unknown

Compassion

Image from the internet

Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn with those who are lonely, to weep with those in tears. Compassion requires us to be weak with the weak, vulnerable with the vulnerable, and powerless with the powerless. Compassion means full immersion in the condition of being human. - Henri J. M Mouwen

Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors. - Andrew Boyd

True benevolence, or compassion, extends itself through the whole of existence and sympathizes with the distress of every creature capable of sensation. - Joseph Addison

Be kind to people whether they deserve your kindness or not. If your kindness reaches the deserving, good for you. If your kindness reaches the undeserving, take joy in your compassion. - James Fadiman

Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living beings, man will not himself find peace. - Albert Schweitzer

Buddhism

I embrace Buddhism for its philosophy of Life, not a religion.

What I like about Buddhism is that it is philosophical, factual, practical and easy to understand. No dramas, no confusing big words. Most importantly, it doesn’t demand blind faith. You are invited to explore, to test the theories, the Teachings of the Buddha. Only when you are satisfied and find them to be true, then you believe them. You are free to reject them if you are not satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt.

Image from the internet

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

If you judge by yourselves – these actions are demeritorious, these are wrong, these are despised by the wise and these are conducive to the prejudice and grief of him who commits them – then do shun them. If you judge by yourselves – these actions are meritorious, these are right, these are praised by the wise, these are conducive to well-being for the happiness of him who performs them – then act accordingly.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honour for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

Therefore, be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge to yourselves. Hold fast to Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height.

Organized religion

There are times when I think religion has its use. Some people need help to deal with the daily demands of life, and religion helps them keep their sanity. Even if it means believing in something that is unprovable. But then, that thinking is also flawed. People could have been taught to be self-reliant. This will help them keep in touch with reality instead of being fatalistic, depending on some imaginary image.
Image from the internet

Organized religion has too often followed the road of other people's institutions. It has made adjustments, compromises, and surrenders to a materialistic civilization for the benefit of material security in spite of occasional twinges of conscience and moral protests. The result has been that today much of organized religion is materialistically solvent but spiritually bankrupt. - Saul Alinsky

It is your organized religions that have made it clear through their most sacred scriptures that cruelty and killing is an acceptable response to human frailty and human differences. This goes against every human instinct, but organized religion has reorganized human thoughts. Some humans have even been turned against their own instinct for survival. And so people go around maiming and killing each other, because they've been told quite directly that this is what God does to them – and what God wants them to do to each other. - Neale Donald Walsch

There are things about organized religion which I resent. Christ is revered as the Prince of Peace, but more blood has been shed in His name than any other figure in history. You show me one step forward in the name of religion and I'll show you a hundred retrogressions. Remember, they were men of God who destroyed the educational treasures at Alexandria, who perpetrated the Inquisition in Spain, who burned the witches at Salem. Over 25,000 organized religions flourish on this planet, but the followers of each think all the others are miserably misguided and probably evil as well. - Frank Sinatra

Most organized religions are control systems to mentally and spiritually enslave humans and deprive them of freewill. - Montalk

Faith

Having faith in a thing does not make that thing true. Your faith doesn’t even make it ‘probably’ true. Having faith has no weight on truth at all. Having faith simply means you will believe in a thing even if it’s not true.
Image from the internet

Faith doesn’t give you the answers. It just stops you from asking the questions. - Unknown

It’s called Faith because it’s not knowledge. The more knowledge you have, the less faith you need. - Unknown

The discoveries of science have proved that the opinions concerning a firmament above, and a flat earth beneath, are completely inaccurate; but faith delights more in sublimity than truth; it soars far above science in its discoveries, and holds accuracy in contempt. - Ethan Allen

The notion that faith in God is to be rewarded by an eternity of bliss, while a dependence upon reason, observation, and experience merits everlasting pain, is too absurd for refutation, and can be relieved only by that unhappy mixture of insanity and ignorance called ‘faith’. - Robert Ingersoll

God

Image from the internet

I really do not believe that there is a god. I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one. It's easier to say that I am a radical Atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it's an opinion I hold seriously. It's funny how many people are genuinely surprised to hear a view expressed so strongly. People will then often say, "But surely it's better to remain an Agnostic just in case?" This, to me, suggests such a level of silliness and muddle that I usually edge out of the conversation rather than get sucked into it. (If it turns out that I've been wrong all along, and there is in fact a god, and if it further turned out that this kind of legalistic, cross-your-fingers-behind-your-back, Clintonian hair-splitting impressed him, then I would choose not to worship him anyway.) - Douglas Adams

If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him? If he is infinitely wise, why should we have doubts concerning our future? If he knows all, why warn him of our needs and fatigue him with our prayers? If he is everywhere, why erect temples to him? If he is just, why fear that he will punish the creatures that he has filled with weaknesses? If grace does everything for them, what reason would he have for recompensing them? If he is all-powerful, how offend him, how resist him? If he is reasonable, how can he be angry at the blind, to whom he has given the liberty of being unreasonable? If he is immovable, by what right do we pretend to make him change his decrees? If he is inconceivable, why occupy ourselves with him? If he has spoken, why is the universe not convinced? If the knowledge of a God is the most necessary, why is it not the most evident and the clearest? - Percy Bysshe Shelley

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Most of us spend the first six days of the week sowing wild oats, then we go to church on Sunday and pray for a crop failure. - Fred Allen

I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Christianity

The best cure for Christianity is reading the bible. - Mark Twain

The greatest crime in fundamentalist Christianity is to think. - Unknown

The real difficulty with thousands in the present day is not that Christianity has been found wanting, but that it has never been seriously tried. - Henry Parry Liddon

What is wrong with Christianity is that it refrains from doing all those things that Christ commanded should be done. - Friedrich Nietzsche

He who begins by loving Christianity better than Truth will proceed by loving his own sect of church better than Christianity, and end by loving himself better than all. - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Bible

I wonder how many people read the Bible in its entirety. And can one seriously believe in the Bible after having read it thoroughly?

Image from the internet

Sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of [another]. - Harper Lee

It ain’t those parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand. – Mark Twain

One would go mad if one took the Bible seriously; but to take it seriously one must be already mad. - Aleister Crowley

Someone ought to tell the truth about the Bible. The prechers dare not, because they would be driven from their pulpits. Proffessors in colleges dare not, because they would lose their salaries. Politicians dare not, because they would be defeated. Editors dare not, they lose their subscribers. Merchants dare not, because they might lose customers. And so, I thought I would do it myself. - Robert G Ingersoll

Beliefs

Your beliefs – they are just that. They are nothing, they are just how you were taught, and raised. That doesn’t make them real. You have a right to your beliefs, but that does not mean your beliefs are right. You shouldn’t believe everything you were told, and you shouldn’t believe everything you hear. Don’t believe hastily.

The most costly of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief occupation of mankind. - H. L. Mencken

You can’t convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it’s based on a deep-seated need to believe. - Carl Sagan

Your beliefs don’t make you a better person. Your behaviour does. - Unknown

The world is fast succumbing to the activities of men and women who would stake the future of our species on beliefs that should not survive an elementary school education. - Sam Harris

Beliefs don’t change facts. Facts, if you’re reasonable, should change your beliefs. - Ricky Gervais

Atheism

Atheism is not a religion. One does not convert to Atheism. One simply realizes everything they’ve been told about god is bullshit.

Image from the internet

Scientists do not join hands every Sunday and sing "Yes gravity is real! I know gravity is real! I will have faith! I believe in my heart that what goes up, up, up must come down, down, down. Amen!" If they did, we would think they were pretty insecure about the concept. - Dan Barker

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. - Stephen Roberts

The Old Testament is responsible for more atheism, agnosticism, disbelief – call it what you will – than any book ever written; it has emptied more churches than all the counter attractions of cinema, motor bicycle and golf course. - A. A. Milne

The opposite of the religious fanatic is not the fanatical atheist but the gentle cynic who cares not whether there is a god or not. - Eric Hoffer

The road to Atheism is littered with bibles that have been read cover to cover. - Andrew L. Seidel

When I became convinced that the universe is natural, that all the ghosts and gods are myths, there entered into my brain, into my soul, into every drop of my blood the sense, the feeling, the joy of freedom. The walls of my prison crumbled and fell. The dungeon was flooded with light and all the bolts and bars and manacles became dust. - Robert Green Ingersoll

Peace of Mind

Peace of mind is of utmost importance to spiritual practice. When our minds are troubled, and not at peace, we will not be able to think or concentrate. Only when our minds are calm and peaceful, then we can be aware of our surroundings and what is happening around us. Hence, our first spiritual practice should be to practice Peace of Mind.
Image from the internet

The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter. - Morihei Ueshiba

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the centre of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this centre is really everywhere, it is within each of us. - Black Elk

Root out the violence in your life, and learn to live compassionately and mindfully. Seek peace. When you have peace within, real peace with others is possible. - Thich Nhat Hanh

Spiritual Teachers

It is good to have a teacher to guide us on the spiritual path. However, good and genuine teachers are hard to come by. Until one comes along we have to depend on ourselves. It is said when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Until then, we can refer to the Teachings of the Buddhas and the sages to guide us. Let them be our guides, our teachers.

Understand also, that Spirituality is a very personal thing. And our spiritual journey is ours to take. We have to undergo the process of understanding and enlightenment ourselves. No one can do it for us. Teachers, however great, can never give their knowledge to the pupils. They can only point out the direction of the Path. After listening to the teacher, whether or not we walk the Path by practicing ourselves, is strictly up to each one of us. Teachers can kindle the light if the oil is in the lamp.

So, if we are confident in ourselves, we might not need a teacher. The Buddha himself didn’t have a teacher. He gained enlightenment on his own.

Image from the internet

The great teachings unanimously emphasize that all the peace, wisdom, and joy in the universe are already within us; we don't have to gain, develop, or attain them. We're like a child standing in a beautiful park with his eyes shut tight. We don't need to imagine trees, flowers, deer, birds, and sky; we merely need to open our eyes and realize what is already here, who we really are. - Unknown

Contemplate the workings of this world, listen to the words of the wise. Open your own door to truth. Do not overlook the truth that is right before you. Study how water flows in a valley stream, smoothly and freely between the rocks. Everything – even mountains, rivers, plants, and trees-should be your teacher. - Morihei Ueshiba

An awakened teacher can only be your lighthouse, casting light on your path, but you must understand it and walk your own path. - Frank M. Wanderer

The highest truth cannot be put into words. Therefore the greatest teacher has nothing to say. He simply gives himself in service, and never worries. - Lao Tzu

Don't just go and believe in the teacher because he says a fruit is sweet and delicious. Taste it for yourself and then all the doubting will be over. - Unknown

Enlightenment

As with all learning, spiritual enlightenment is gained little by little. We can’t learn and know everything at once. That is just not possible. If anything, it would overwhelm us. In the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, we have to be very patient. The answers will come when we are ready, sometimes when we least expect it, in ways we didn’t imagine.

As long as we keep on the spiritual path, we will make progress. The progress might be so gradual that we are not aware of it. But one day, when we look back, we will see we have progressed far. As long as we do not give up, we will gain enlightenment eventually - perhaps not full enlightenment like the Buddha, but certainly some degrees of enlightenment nonertheless.

One must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him. - Buddha

Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter. - Morihei Ueshiba

To know yourself as the Being underneath the thinker, the stillness underneath the mental noise, the love and joy underneath the pain, is freedom, salvation, enlightenment. - Eckhart Tolle

Enlightenment or awakening is not the creation of a new state of affairs but the recognition of what already is. - Alan Watts

Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. Its seeing through the façade of pretence. It’s the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true. - Adyashanti

Enlightenment is when a wave realizes it is the ocean. - Thich Nhat Hanh

Spirituality

Your life is a process of self-realization. Nobody is coming to help you. Once you start feeling responsible for your own life you start growing. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning.

Spirituality is not religion. Spirituality is not something connected with holy books, and not connected with religions. Spirituality must be lived, not just studied. All the books in the world will not help us if we do not live what we learn.

Image from the internet

When you approach spirituality as an adventure of being alive, you start as you would any adventure – with a sense of mystery and not-knowing. Instead of searching for answers that make you feel safe, you set out into the vastness of life and death, with a willingness to continually grow. You open up to the possibility that your ordinary life is an extraordinary adventure, and that your joys and sorrows have meaning. Spiritual practice becomes your rudder, offering direction and insight and discretion as you venture into the unknown. - Elizabeth Lesser

Most people stand in sight of the spiritual mountains all their lives and never enter them, being content to listen to others who have been there and thus avoid the hardships. Some travel into the mountains accompanied by experienced guides who know the best and least dangerous routes by which they arrive at their destination. Still others, inexperienced and untrusting, attempt to make their own routes. Few of these are successful, but occasionally some, by sheer will and luck and grace, do make it. Once there they become more aware than any of the others that there's no single or fixed number of routes. There are as many routes as there are individual souls. - Robert M. Pirsig

So long as the bee is outside the petals of the lily, and has not tasted the sweetness of its honey, it hovers around the flower emitting the buzzing sound; but when it is inside the flower, it noiselessly drinks the nectar. So long as a man quarrels and disputes about doctrines and dogmas, he has not tasted the nectar of true faith; when he has tasted it, he becomes quiet and full of peace. - Sri Ramakrishna
