Lao Tzu

Laozi, also romanized as Lao Tzu was a Chinese philosopher and author of the Tao Te Ching, one of the foundational texts of Taoism. The name, literally meaning 'Old Master', was likely intended to portray an archaic anonymity. A central figure in Chinese culture, Laozi is generally considered the founder of Taoism.

If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your one self-transformation. - Lao Tzu

Because clarity and enlightenment are within your own nature, they are regained without moving an inch. - Lao Tzu

To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. - Lao Tzu

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. - Lao Tzu

I do not concern myself with gods and spirits either good or evil nor do I serve any. - Lao Tzu

If you have truly attained wholeness, everything will flock to you. - Lao Tzu

When we see persons of worth, we should think of equalling them; when we see persons of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves. – Lao Tzu

Energy, Frequency, Vibration...

Image from the internet

Wi-Fi moves through walls, connects the world, and powers our lives... and no one doubts it.
But when someone speaks about energy, frequency, and vibration, it’s labeled as fantasy.

The truth is simple:
Everything is movement.
Every thought, every emotion, every word carries a charge.
Science measures it.
Ancient wisdom felt it.
Your mood changes a room.
Your presence shifts conversations.
Your silence can speak louder than noise.
This is not mysticism.
This is awareness.

As the Buddha taught:
what you cultivate within, you radiate without.
Change the inner signal, and the outer world begins to respond.
When you realize this, you stop reacting to life…
and start tuning it.

Universe

It was as if the universe itself stretched out its finger to touch me. And in touching me, singling me out, it only heightened my awareness of my own insignificance. That was somehow very comforting. When you confront the absolute indifference of magnitudes and vistas so overwhelming, the swollen ego of your own self-important suffering is diminished. - Joan D. Vinge

Here we are in this wholly fantastic universe with scarcely a clue as to whether our existence has any real significance. - E. F. Schumacher

I know that much of the structure and plan of the universe is beyond my understanding and not at all similar to anything of our earthly world that I have experienced so far. I marvel at the intellect and attention to detail, the precision manifested by the workings of this great and often unseen force of which we are all a part. - Rosemary Altea

We live in a changing universe, and few things are changing faster than our conception of it. - Timothy Ferris

The basic laws of the Universe are simple, but because our senses are limited, we can’t grasp them. There is a pattern in creation. - Albert Einstein

It is clear that there is no classification of the Universe that is not arbitrary and full of conjectures. The reason for this is very simple: we do not know what kind of thing the universe is. - Jorge Luis Borges

In answer to the question of why it happened, I offer the modest proposal that our Universe is simply one of those things which happen from time to time. - Edward P. Tryon

We are taught by great actions that the universe is the property of every individual in it. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today we no longer regard the universe as the cause of our own undeserved troubles but perhaps, on the contrary, as the last refuge from the mismanagement of our earthly affairs. - Rudolf Arnheim

Meditation Practise

Meditation is a practice in which an individual train his or her attention and awareness, to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
Image from the internet

Everyone should take some time off to meditate. We may never achieve the state of ‘awareness’ that monks and mystics reached but still, meditation clears our mind, giving us inner peace and inner calm. Through meditation, we will have a clearer view of the whole picture, of life. This will help us deal better with the realities of/in life.

However, there are a few essential things to be remembered: The first is a relaxed state - no fight, no control, no concentration. The second is watchfulness - witness whatever is going on inside of you. And the third is, don't have any judgment or evaluation about it. Just be a watcher.

Simply put, you just sit silently and witness your mind-process, while keeping your attention on the breath. Nothing needs to be done. Just be a witness, an observer, a watcher, looking at the traffic of the mind - thoughts passing by, desires, memories, dreams, fantasies. Simply stand aloof, cool, with no condemnation, no evaluations. Once you get the knack of it, it is the most simple thing in the world.

A time comes when you don't have to use meditation techniques any more. You just sit down and you are non-existence itself. - Frederick Lenz

You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour. - Old Zen saying

When the mind is sluggish or depressed and weary, that is no time for cultivation tranquillity and meditation. As well might you hope to make a fire by piling wet grass upon it. - Unknown

The Truth

Truth will always be truth, regardless of lack of understanding, disbelief or ignorance. Truth is not what you want it to be; it is what it is. Truth is universal. Perception of truth is not.
Image from the internet

There are many truths of which the full meaning cannot be realized until personal experience has brought it home. - John Stuart Mill

All great truths are simple in final analysis, and easily understood; if they are not, they are not great truths. - Napoleon Hill

While we are examining into everything we sometimes find truth where we least expected it. - Marcus Fabius Quintilian

Truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it and ignorance may deride it, but, in the end, there it is. - Sir Winston Churchill

The truth is not always beautiful, nor beautiful words the truth. - Lao Tzu

If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinions for or against anything. To set up what you like against what you dislike is the disease of the mind. - Zen Master Seng Tsan

A truth that disheartens because it is true is of more value than the most stimulating of falsehoods. - Maurice Maeterlinck

Minds Are Like...

Your mind is like a garden. Tend it well by filling it with positive, encouraging, and faith-building thoughts throughout the day. Disorder sets in when the garden is not tended to for some time; the same goes for our mind if we neglect it too long. - Unknown
Image from the internet

A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind. - James Allen

As an orchard when manured produces pleasant trees and luscious fruit, so does a cultivated mind produce pure thoughts and noble actions. - William Scott Downey

No mind can run continually and remain effective. Remember, even a paddy field needs a good rest after a harvest in order to produce quality crops in the future. - Unknown

The mind is nothing less than a garden of inestimable value which man should strive to cultivate. - William Scott Downey

Your mind is a magnet. If you think of blessings you attract blessings; and if you think of problems you attract problems. Always cultivate good thoughts and always remain positive and optimistic. - Unknown

Minds are like flowers, they only open when the time is right. - Stephen Richards

Compassion

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. - Dalai Lama

A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. - Steve Maraboli

Compassion will no longer be seen as a spiritual luxury for a contemplative few; rather it will be viewed as a social necessity for the entire human family. - Duane Elgin

Compassion – that's the one thing no machine ever had. Maybe it's the one thing that keeps man ahead of them. - D. C. Fontana

Grief for the calamity of another is pity, and arises from the imagination that the like calamity may befall himself; and, therefore, it is called compassion, or in the phrase of the present time a fellow-feeling. - Thomas Hobbbes

If it is not tempered by compassion, and empathy, reason can lead men and women into a moral void. - Karen Armstrong

Let our compassion express itself in efforts to bring the erring back to sacred principles, and if they persist, let us pity them the more for a blindness so fatal to themselves. - S. E. D. Charnage

Attachment / Non Attachment

If a man cares not if things are thus and not thus, then provided he has no harsh thoughts, he has indeed found happiness. He has certain security for he has found freedom from grief and care. Truly, he has overcome the world. - Unknown
Image from the internet

One of the best ways to overcome possessive-attachment to loved ones is to reflect on impermanence. Everything changes, nothing lasts. One day death will separate us from the people we love. Separation could occur even before that if one of us is posted overseas or if we quarrel and come to hate each other. The more attached we are the more pain and stress we will suffer at this separation. Therefore it is wise to give up attachment. But that doesn’t mean giving up love! We can love people without being attached to them by living with the awareness of our inevitable separation. We can love and care for them now and at the same time be ready to say goodbye to them when the time comes. - Unknown

If you see things with real insight, then there is no stickiness in your relationship to them. They come – pleasant and unpleasant – you see them and there is no attachment. They come and they pass. Even if the worst kinds of defilement come up, such as greed or anger, there's enough wisdom to see their impermanent nature and allow them to just fade away. If you react to them, however, by liking or disliking, that isn't wisdom. You're only creating more suffering for yourself. - Unknown

Once you understand non-self, then the burden of life is gone. You'll be at peace with the world. When we see beyond self, we no longer cling to happiness and we can truly be happy. Learn to let go without struggle, simply let go, to be just as you are – no holding on, no attachment, free.

It is in the nature of things, however dear they may be to us, that we must separate from them, leave and depart from them. Anything that is born, that is formed and brought into being, contains within itself the qualities naturally associated with its own dissolution.

Religion

[A cosmic religion] has no dogma other than teaching man that the Universe is rational and that his highest destiny is to ponder it and co-create with its laws.. - Albert Einstein
Image from the internet

Excessive concern with religion seems to me a last resort for people who have been exhausted by life. - Naguib Mahfouz

Anyone who can worship a trinity and insist that his religion is a monotheism can believe anything. - Robert Heinlein

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind. - Albert Einstein

That religion may have served some necessary function for us in the past does not preclude the possibility that it is now the greatest impediment to our building a global civilization. - Sam Harris

Religious beliefs prepare a kind of landscape of images, an illusory milieu favourable to every hallucination and every delirium. - Michel Foucault

Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise. - James Madison

Actions inspired by fear of future punishment or hope of future reward are entirely selfish and unworthy of religion. - James Platt

An immoral character, glossed with religious pretension, is like a rotten egg with an Easter colouring. - Lewis F. Korns
